1. Getting Started

Welcome to Auto-Messenger! This platform helps you automate Facebook Messenger responses using AI while maintaining full control through human oversight.

Before You Begin:

  • Create an account at Auto-Messenger
  • Have admin access to a Facebook Page
  • Obtain API keys from at least one AI provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or Deepseek)

2. Configuring AI Providers

Auto-Messenger supports multiple AI providers. You'll need to configure at least one to use the platform's features.

Supported AI Providers:

OpenAI

Models: GPT-4, GPT-4 Turbo, GPT-3.5 Turbo

How to Configure:

  1. Navigate to Account Settings:

    Go to Dashboard → Settings (gear icon in sidebar)

  2. Add Your API Keys:

    Enter your API keys for each provider you want to use

  3. Validate Keys:

    Click "Validate" to ensure your keys are working correctly

  4. Set Default Model:

    Choose a default AI model for your account

Security Note:

Your API keys are encrypted and stored securely. They are never exposed to the client-side application or shared with third parties. You are responsible for the costs associated with your AI provider usage.

3. Connecting Your Facebook Page

Connect your Facebook Page to start receiving and responding to messages.

Steps to Connect:

  1. Go to Dashboard:

    From your dashboard, click "Connect Facebook Page"

  2. Authorize Facebook:

    You'll be redirected to Facebook to grant permissions

  3. Select Your Page:

    Choose which Facebook Page(s) you want to connect

  4. Grant Permissions:

    Allow Auto-Messenger to manage messages and read page information

✓ Multiple Pages:

You can connect multiple Facebook Pages to your account. Each page can have its own AI model configuration and persona settings.

4. Building Your Knowledge Base

The knowledge base trains your AI to provide accurate, context-aware responses about your business.

Creating Knowledge Base Entries:

  1. Navigate to Knowledge Base:

    Click "Knowledge Base" in the sidebar

  2. Add New Entry:

    Click "Add Knowledge" button

  3. Choose Input Method:
    • Manual Entry: Type or paste content directly
    • URL Import: Import content from a webpage (requires AI provider)
  4. Add Title and Content:

    Provide a descriptive title and detailed content

  5. Activate/Deactivate:

    Toggle entries on/off without deleting them

What to Include:

  • FAQs: Common questions and answers about your products/services
  • Product Information: Details about features, pricing, specifications
  • Business Policies: Shipping, returns, refunds, terms of service
  • Contact Information: Hours, locations, support channels
  • Troubleshooting Guides: Common issues and solutions

Start with your most frequently asked questions. The more comprehensive your knowledge base, the better your AI responses will be. Keep entries focused and well-organized.

5. Creating AI Personas

AI Personas define how your AI assistant communicates with customers - its tone, style, and personality.

Using Persona Templates:

  1. Navigate to AI Persona:

    Click "AI Persona" in the sidebar

  2. Browse Templates:

    Explore pre-built templates by category (Customer Support, Sales, E-commerce, etc.)

  3. Select a Template:

    Click on a template to preview and use it

  4. Customize or Use As-Is:

    You can use the template directly or modify it to fit your needs

Creating Custom Personas:

  1. Write Custom Prompt:

    Define your AI's personality, tone, and behavior in the text area

  2. Include Guidelines:
    • Communication style (formal, casual, friendly, professional)
    • Brand voice and values
    • Response length preferences
    • Special instructions (e.g., always ask for email, offer discounts)
  3. Save Your Persona:

    Click "Save" to apply the persona to your page

Example Persona Prompt:

"You are a friendly and helpful customer support agent for [Your Business]. Always be polite, empathetic, and solution-oriented. Keep responses concise but informative. If you don't know something, admit it and offer to connect the customer with a human agent. Always end responses with a question to keep the conversation flowing."

6. Managing Conversations

The Messenger dashboard is your central hub for managing all Facebook Page conversations.

Understanding the Interface:

  • Conversation List (Left):

    Shows all conversations with unread counts and timestamps

  • Message Thread (Center):

    Displays the selected conversation with message history

  • Conversation Insights (Right):

    Shows customer information and conversation metadata

Responding to Messages:

  1. AI Suggestions:

    When a new message arrives, the AI generates a suggested response based on your knowledge base and persona

  2. Review the Suggestion:

    Read the AI-generated response carefully

  3. Choose Your Action:
    • Send: Accept and send the AI suggestion
    • Edit: Modify the suggestion before sending
    • Write Your Own: Type a completely custom response
  4. Manual Override:

    You can always type and send messages manually, bypassing AI suggestions

AI Settings Per Conversation:

Click the "AI Settings" button in the message input area to:

  • Enable/disable AI suggestions for this conversation
  • Adjust AI behavior on the fly

🤖 Human-in-the-Loop:

Auto-Messenger never sends messages automatically without your approval. You always have the final say before any message is sent to your customers.

7. Testing in the Playground

The AI Playground lets you test different AI models and personas without affecting real customer conversations.

How to Use:

  1. Navigate to Playground:

    Click "AI Playground" in the sidebar

  2. Select AI Model:

    Choose from available models (based on your configured API keys)

  3. Test Conversations:

    Type test messages and see how the AI responds

  4. Compare Models:

    Clear chat and try different models to compare responses

  5. Refine Your Persona:

    Use insights from testing to improve your AI persona

8. Page-Specific Settings

Each connected Facebook Page can have its own AI model configuration, overriding your account defaults.

Configuring Page Settings:

  1. Navigate to Page Settings:

    Click "Page Settings" in the sidebar

  2. Select AI Model:

    Choose a specific AI model for this page (or use account default)

  3. Save Changes:

    Click "Save" to apply the configuration

Hierarchy:

  1. Playground model selection (testing only)
  2. Page-specific model (if configured)
  3. Account default model

9. Best Practices

Knowledge Base:

  • Keep entries focused on specific topics
  • Update regularly as your business evolves
  • Use clear, concise language
  • Include examples and specific details
  • Deactivate outdated information instead of deleting

AI Personas:

  • Be specific about tone and style
  • Include your brand values and voice
  • Set clear boundaries (what the AI should/shouldn't do)
  • Test thoroughly in the playground before deploying
  • Iterate based on real conversation outcomes

Conversation Management:

  • Always review AI suggestions before sending
  • Personalize responses when appropriate
  • Take over manually for complex or sensitive issues
  • Monitor conversation quality regularly
  • Collect feedback to improve your setup

Security:

  • Keep your API keys confidential
  • Monitor your AI provider usage and costs
  • Use strong passwords for your account
  • Review connected pages periodically
  • Disconnect pages you no longer manage

10. Troubleshooting

Common Issues:

AI features not working

Solution:

  • Verify you've configured at least one AI provider in Settings
  • Check that your API keys are valid (use the Validate button)
  • Ensure you have sufficient credits with your AI provider

Facebook Page not receiving messages

Solution:

  • Check that your Facebook Page is published (not in draft mode)
  • Verify the page connection is still active
  • Try disconnecting and reconnecting the page
  • Ensure you have the necessary Facebook permissions

AI responses are not relevant

Solution:

  • Expand your knowledge base with more detailed information
  • Refine your AI persona prompt to be more specific
  • Try a different AI model (some excel at different tasks)
  • Review and update outdated knowledge base entries

Knowledge base import from URL failing

Solution:

  • Ensure you have an AI provider configured (required for URL import)
  • Check that the URL is publicly accessible
  • Try a different URL or use manual entry instead

Can't see certain AI models

Solution:

  • Only models from configured AI providers are shown
  • Add API keys for additional providers to see more models
  • Ensure your API keys have access to the models you want
